On December 18, the newest chapter in the Star Wars saga came out. This one is set to be 30 years after “Return of the Jedi.” The last Jedi, Luke Skywalker, has vanished and a map leading to his location is being carried by a droid called BB-8. On the planet Jakku, the First Order (A  group who has risen when the Empire has fallen) has attacked and BB-8’s owner, Poe, a starfighter pilot, goes into battle, promising the droid that he’ll be back. Except, he is captured by the First Order’s leader Kylo Ren.

BB-8 has no where to go, so it wanders around Jakku. A scavenger named Rey finds BB-8 and takes it back to her post.  The buyer wants to by BB-8 but Rey refuses to sell it. She brings it back to her house. Meanwhile, Poe is the First Order’s prisoner. A storm trooper approaches him, and asks if he can fly one of the ships, because he wants to escape and will help Poe escape. Eventually they both do escape, and Poe asks the storm trooper his name. He said he never was given a name, only FN-2187, so Poe said he’ll just call him Finn.

Finn and Poe crash land on Jakku, and Poe is suddenly nowhere to be seen. Finn wanders around and runs into Rey and BB-8. Rey almost attacks him when BB-8 seems alarmed, because it recognizes him from the battle where his owner was captured. He tells them don’t worry, because he’s good and part of the Resistance. Unfortunately, the First Order followed Finn to Jakku and is now attacking everyone.

Rey, Finn, and BB-8 are running for their lives while Rey tries to find a ship she can fly. She finds a ship she calls a piece of junk, but it’s their only choice. It just happens to be the….Millennium Falcon! She clumsily gets the ship off the ground and into space. But then, they get captured by a huge hangar. They think it’s the First Order, but when the guy walks in the ship it’s really Han Solo and Chewbacca! He gets on the ship  and looks at BB-8’s map to Luke Skywalker and realizes it’s incomplete and R2D2 has the other part. They fly off to a planet called D’Qar  where the Resistance is based.

They go to a cafe in D’Qar and meet a little alien named Maz. She talks with them, but a woman in the building alerts the First Order that Finn the rogue storm trooper and BB-8 are here. Rey goes downstairs when she hears cries of help. There she found Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, but when she touched it she has a terrible flashback. Maz comes down and says that she is meant to have the lightsaber, but Rey rejects it.

The First Order comes to D’Qar and attacks everyone. Rey and BB-8 run away, but Rey decides to go out alone. There she meets Kylo Ren and he captures her for information. He tries to read her mind but she resists. They take her to the Star Destroyer, a weapon built into a planet that destroys planets. Meanwhile, Finn, Han, and Chewbacca go to the Resistance base to try to get Rey back and destroy the Star Destroyer. R2D2 and C3po are there, but R2D2 is shut down because his master Luke Skywalker is missing. The Star Destroyer then  blows up three planets, and D’Qar is next.

Back at the Star Destroyer, Rey is left alone and uses a Jedi mind trick on a stormtrooper to let her out. The Resistance sends fighter planes to the destroyer, but it seems the time is to short. They continue attacking but there are only 2 minutes left. Rey and Finn escape to the outside of the planet and find Kylo Ren. Finn holds the lightsaber and faces off, but he doesn’t know how to use it. Kylo Ren stabs him in the spine and leaves him incapacitated. Rey faces off against Kylo Ren, and after a long battle, she wins as the Star Destroyer is destroyed.

The go back in the base and R2D2 wakes up. The two droids (R2d2 and BB-8) project their maps and the location of Luke Skywalker is discovered. The fly the ship to the planet he is on, and Rey climbs up the stairs and hands him the lightsaber.

Overall this was a great movie. The characters were very developed, even though most of them were new. The old characters were very nice to see again. The acting was a bit flat in some places but overall very good. If you haven’t heard about it already, something at the end will shock all returning fans. Even if you’ve never seen any of the Star Wars movies you will still enjoy it. If you have, you will get more out of it and enjoy it.
